I would not frown upon the nymph fishing. I think that is the best long line strike indicator nymphing river that I have been to. Mid August might be a bit late for the good hopper fishing. There are at least 100-125 bots drifting down each section every day. The fish learn that the hoppers are bad quickly.
Any depression in the stream bed, drop off/ledge, side channel, riffle and other spot in the stream has hundreds of fish. It's crazy there! You only need three nymphs, a soft hackle Ray Charles, soft hackle sow bug and a two tone San Juan worm
The black caddis egg laying flight in the evening will be your bet bet for trout on dries.
