after our awesome day of fishing yesterday i could not agree with you anymore! that was the fist time i got to see the entire west branch since the flood. the river is much shallower than i have even seen it. many of the holes are filled in and the river flows much slower than i have even seen it. also this was with a large volume of water flowing from the dam. i dont even want to think about what the fishing is going to be like in the summer when the flows are cut back from the dam. the water is going to be warmer than ever. stretches that were hip deep are now ankle deep. the side channels are much wider now and are filled with silt. its very upsetting to see my favorite trout stream in this shape. i think that some serious projects need to be done. maybe some of the side channels need to be dammed up to allow moore water to flow through the main channel so it can be dug out again. so much of the awesome nymph structure is no longer there. also many of the holes formed by large rocks in the river have been silted in. the trout will be easy prey for birds and other animals. i hope that this situation gets addressed. in my opinion these problems are much more importnant than the water flow issue at the moment.
