Mike and I fished in Westchester county today and he had a good day. Fishing was very slow; I landed zero! The water temperature was only 34.8 deg and because of that, I could find no fish in any of the pockets or moderate current pools. Mike focused on the super slow pools and got a few fish on midges fished under an indicator. A few pictures:
On the way back home, we fished the Farmington for a while and it was also very slow. Mike again managed a couple. Just before we were driving to the river, the MDC decided to reduce the flow by about a third! From the dam, the water flow was reduced from 800 to 500cfs.
This may have contributed to the slow fishing; I would have preferred it to stay high!
Final note: it is really tricky to walk around in the woods right now. The big rain puddles have frozen, and are now covered with powdery snow. I took a really serious spill on the way, what a scene. Since they shed snow well, I wore my Simms Rivershed Studded Aquastealth shoes but they are truly worthless. They provide no traction at all except on completely dry, warm, flat rocks. I just tossed them in the trash pail!
