I love the site! I am sure i will be around and contributing to the Forum. I am form PA and i have grow up fishing the streams in and around the Elk County. I don't fish many world class water but i catch my fair share of trout and enjoy every minute of it. If you are looking for information or what is catching Trout in and around North Centeral and North Western PA feel freee to ask.

About "World Class Trout Fishing", PA has more than its fair share! Sometimes we fail to realize how great our local streams are. The Clarion runs through Elk County right? That is certainly a LWorld Class" trout fishery. The Allegheny below Kinzua Dam is legendary for big trout. I had one straighten out a streamer hook there! Also, the Lake Erie tribs aren't too far from you either. So don't feel like the streams by you aren't great... They most certainly are!

don't worry I know i am spoiled i dont have to go very far to catch some great trout! I am spoiled i grew up thinking it was normal. The Clarion is where i learned how to fly fish.

I heard from Kurt that the numbers of large browns in the Clarion were way down this year. Have you made similar observations?

Sadly yes there did seem to be a lot less bigger browns but i did notice a good number of 12" to 16" browns so if they stay healthy there should be an influx of nicer browns.  I fear the low water has really hurt them along with increasing pressure.  I also hear a lot of reports of guys cathing and keeping Brown trout over 20 inches in the areas right near Johnsonburgh.  The source is a reputable land owner who allows fishing but kick these guys off his property for keeping trout a few times with stringers of lunker trout.  All that is takes is handfull of guys doing this for a few years to really take a toll on the trout!  It is sad that this area has a lot of Limit Fisherman that need to keep Fish to feel they had a good day.  Also i know Kurt feels that a few of teh Fishing derbies and the large stocking of Stocked trout from them entering the river takes its toll and I agree.  We will see what will happen but i have noticed an increase in pressure that i have not seen until the last couple years.  There is great fishing but the access problems are an issue espically with one area where the landowner will scare you off with gun shots!  It still is a great River and the lower end is great for Smallmouth as well!!
