fly selection for this time of year

Hi i was just wondering what the most effective and most easily fished fly for begginers. I did learn nymphs are effective but i guees late spring and summer time fishing is not the greatest time so if someone could tell me of a good fly dry, streamer, wet, etc. that would be great. I am fishing on a river but the section i am fishing is just like a small stream which widens into a huge section of slow moving water right after a good set of riffles.

    Sammy,

There are no secret flies. You have good ones. Learn what FK showed you. That is the way to catch fish. Do not make the mistake of being the "young bull". Learn one thing and get good at it, then move on. How many times have you fished in the last week? You have a ton of stuff to work with. Get on it

I don't know, I am still using nymphs and it is very effective this time of year too. And the coolest part of nymphing is that you can try 2-3 at the same time.

Now that I get out 4-5 times a week, I seem to be much luckier.

How soon do you start using some terrestrials?

    Sammy,

Almost everyone has experienced the frustration of catching that first fish on a fly rod.

I cheated and went to a local pond and caught bluegills and small bass, got that out of my system, then went on the trout journey.

You are asking the right questions and learning from your efforts.

    Regards,
    FK
