Nymphing Tactics for Beginners

could someone please tell me the easiest and most productive way to fish a nymph and are strike indicators really necessary
Thanks im new to fly fishing but i love the sport and its going to stay with me forever.One last question could anyone share with me some great nypmh patterns that catch trout regularly on any rivers in CT.

can get you started regarding fly patterns. There is also a short list of standard patterns (gold-ribbed hare's ear, prince, pheasant tail) in regular and flashbacks and sizes 12-20 that will serve you well. On heavily-pressured streams, smaller sizes are better. If you read through this forum, you will find a great deal of information about nymph fishing with and without indicators. For a beginner, it is probably best to use a strike indicator of either yarn or foam and concentrate on presentation. The main element of presenting the nymph has to do with line mending. There are also excellent book resources, and my favorite is the book by Larry Tullis. There are a few major trends in nymph fishing: (1) the use of 10ft rods or longer, (2) strict use of fluorocarbon and (3) Euro-nymphing, where the weights are replaced with weighted flies.
