    Deerfield?

has anyone fished the Deerfield recently? have to be at a soccer gig Sunday afternoon -- too far to run down to Rhoddy and chase bass/blues in the salt -- so was thinking about giving the Millers or Deerfield a try instead....

    Re: Deerfield?

Haven't been there at all this fall! They were still releasing water as of this past Saturday. The levels since Saturday have been over 1000cfs because of the recent rains. I personally wouldn't bother fishing it at these levels if you're going to wade. The millers is just as bad as far as flows. Down in Erving the flows have been right around 1000 since the rains on Saturday.

    Re: Deerfield?

I know 2 people who fish there with some regularity and they both like completely opposite conditions. One of my friends likes low water, such as the 125 cfs shutdown flow. He catches mostly stocker rainbows and the occassional brown trout.

My other friend likes prolonged higher flows with no fluctuation. He catches many nice holder and wild brown trout. He also catches the stocked bows as well. It appears that the flows will be high for some time after the last rain. If you go fish the current seams off of the major pools and you should be successful.

    Re: Deerfield?

As it happens, I'm a crappy nymph fisherman -- mostly because I much prefer to fish dries and have spent less than a handful of hours flailing around with nymphs. So I always prefer the lower flows.

That said, I have friends who much prefer the higher flows on the Deerfield -- but they are good nymphers.

I will just remain hopeful that between now and Sunday the water levels will continue to drop. If I do anything, I'll post a report.
