    Erie steelhead

    Hi Y'all
Went out to Erie PA to see what all the fuss was about. Let me tell you those Erie steelhead are fun! We hooked up so many times we wore our shoulders out. We would be fishless for a while and then WHAM, we would hook six in an hour! Average size was in the 7lb range but we got a couple that were 10lb or so.

Then we went over to Ohio and fished the Conneat for a half day. The fish were fresh, strong, and beautifully chrome. Very difficult to land in the faster water. i lost three at the net before I finally landed this beauty.

You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.

Looks like a fantastic trip Trout5 ! Is the area you fished near the Elk river? I have a friend whose family lives near the Elk. Also, just curious what size rod and type of line you were using. BTW, really nice fish and pictures.

Good going Oscar! You can't beat the Lake Erie tribs for number. It appears that the sizes were near SR fish as well.

    Oscar,

Now that I could view the pictures! Good going again. Did you walk up to the high railroad bridge in the background? There is a big pool there that is always loaded with fish. It's one of the largest pools on the stream that you fished. I heard that the runs are really good this year and your reports backs that rmor up.

    Re: Erie steelhead

It was, in fact, the Elk River. We fished the upper on day one for a few hours and the lower on day two. I fished my TFO 10' 7wght Pro series exclusively with a Sci Angler Steelhead taper floating line. Almost all fish were taken under indicators on sucker spawn, crystal meth, and wooley buggers. I tied on a 12' sinking head for a bit to swing a few, but with little success. Magnet, I think it's time for you to visit your friend! The pressure was crazy. So many anglers! That pool by the trestle was loaded with bait guys. All the bridge pools were. Thanks for the kudos, btw.
