    Steelhead Fly

Planning on going up to a friends house in up-state NY, to go steelhead fishing in about 3 weeks. It's a small river called Salmon Creek. Has anyone fished it before?

This will be my first time steelfhead fishing so I've been stocking up on flies. So far I've tied a lot of egg patterns different colors/sizes.

Anyone have any reccomendations on other flies that I should tie before the trip?

This is my first attempt at a steelhead bunny fly.

Egg sucking leaches size 2 to 10. Wooly buggers in black, olive and brown. Estaz eggs in purple, root beer, pearl, pink and chartreuse. Crystal meth in the same colors as the estaz eggs. Sucker spawn. I have also had luck fishing with natural nymphs like stone flies. Hope this helps.

One thing is for sure, you won't have to worry about what color fly to tie one 'cuz that streamer has got 'em all!

Good fly advice from VT, I would add in Glo Bugs, and bring your box of medium to large trout nymphs- Hare's Ears, Caddis Larva, Stoneflies (black, golden, brown) and the like also work on Steelhead.

I tied another rabbit streamer, this time making it a little more simple.... All it consists of is a white rabbit zonker strip and crosscut rabbit wrapped around the shank of the hook and a little krytal flash.... Tied on a size 8 Salmon/Steelhead hook. Less bulky and lighter and wont color blind the fish.......

Thanks, one of the guys I work with is just getting into flyfishing and he has a membership at a private fish and game area in newtown. He told me he ussualy fishes the lake for the rainbows and browns they stock.

I figure these rabbit flies should pick up some bigger trout for him in the lake. I know in the spring time I have always had excellent luck with white streamers/buggers on rainbows.
