Thanks for the report. I will be heading to Penns for the first time every the first week of June and can't wait. I mostly streamer fish but working on changing that. Any suggestions for streamers that i might want with me?
Fished for stockies in the morning on a local creek. Landed a Palimino, Brook, Rainbow, and Brown trout in succession. First time I got the slam in 4 consecutive fish. I ended up watching buddies fish for most of the morning and helped chase a few guys off the stream who snagged and kept an 18" palimino. Who would have figured the Fish and Boat Commission Headquarters would be closed on the first day of trout season? Took all of his information I could before they sped off. Hopefully his license plate and description is enough, as well as 5 witnesses.
Hit Penns in Weikert at 3 with some buddies. I stuck to the pocket water and picked up 5 wild browns, but otherwise it was pretty slow. BWO's were all over the place. Thousands and thousands of them. March Browns were also coming off. We saw about 3 dozen float by while fishing.
Sunday we hit Penn's again, first thing in the morning. I proceeded to ruin my day by landing an 18" brown on my first cast, then followed him up with an 18 1/2" brown. After that I fell in twice (it was 39 degrees that morning plus wind chill), had a log fall on me and also broke my net, spool came off of my reel and had to chase it along the bottom of the creek, cracked my knuckle open on a tungsten head fly when I pulled it out of a tree (which hurt and bled like hell), and also dropped a 100gram bag of split shots into the creek. This was all in about 1 hour.
We stopped at the Sportsman's Club for lunch and I downed a few beers since I wasn't driving. That seemed to lighten my mood.
We headed to the C&R area after having a slow morning with the stockies and it was a good choice, as usual. Plenty of fish to be had, and also a good amount rising for March Browns, Caddis, and BWO's. Landed some real nice browns and a surprise 18" rainbow that looked like a steelhead.
I just replenished my fly supply, so I plan to head there tomorrow. Light crowds and early hatches. No complaints.

I was there this past Monday and it was my first time, tons of bugs, very difficult creek. Caught 1. Need more time on that stream and I want to go back! Also need some stoneflies for anchor flies, and some soft hackles in peacock

MB's for sure? Very early, but the weather has been warm.
Seems like my first response disappeared. Try again.
Nice report.
I am sure Penns better fish population took a hit with the good conditions. Wish they would extend the C & R.
Passinthru: Normal streamers work: Olive and Black Sculpins are a popular choice. Drop a nymph from that and that may improve your success.
It's hard to mistake a March Brown for anything else that hatches in Pa. Hit the C&R area again yesterday with a buddy, and yes, March Browns are still coming off.
Kaz, I wish they would make the stream all C&R from Coburn down to Weikert. I can't imagine what the fishing would be like after 5 years.... Pandemonium would be the closest description.
Killinger, I would take Kaz's advice. I only fish Penns with streamers during the Fall, and have no experience with them during Early Summer.

Yeah, a bunch of guys reported MBs on Penns. Sulphurs this weekend, maybe?!? lol
Mike:
How is the water level on Penn's? above or below average for April?
Tks

Someone at Bruce's shop saw 1 Sulphur so far. I didn't see any duns personally.
I think the level was 300 or 325 when I was there. It's a good level for all types of fishing and easily waded. I personally like it about 600cfs. The real big fish tend to come out and play more.
