Aaron & Justin on the Salmon River 12/20/07

Aaron & Justin are in Pulaski fishing the Salmon, just spoke with them- lots of fish, Aaron hooked a bunch and is teaching Justin how to Centerpin. Justin said he felt pretty awkward today with the Centerpin outfit. ??? It took me several days before I didn't feel like a monkey on a football, lots of tangles and bad casts. Justin palmed the reel too hard and busted off a really big one > (there is no drag per se on the Centerpin reel, it's sorta like a giant large arbor fly reel with a palming rim and no drag whatsoever). Aaron, of course, was way into double digits with fish landed and some more lost (4x-5x tippets), big Justin was 0 for 4. Lots of Steel present in the river at this time. They may try the fly rods tomorrow.

Yes.. fishing was GREAT to say the least the last three days. We hit multiple fish in every spot we fished. The steelhead are in all of the traditional winter lies/holding areas. The action on Thursday was out of hand. We might have landed almost three dozen fish that day. Yesterday was slower but we still had in the neighborhood of 20. Today was off the charts again. Well in excess of 20 landed and our day was cut short at 130. Justin and I decided to do some swimming. We were standing on shelf ice and it broke. We were both treading water. I was actually doing more laughing than panicing. The fishing was out of hand prior to falling through the ice so it didn't dampen my spirits one bit.

To give you an idea of how many fish in the river there are now i will list the pools that we caught them in.
The spots were the Upper Trestle Pool, Trestle Pool, Lower Trestle Pool, Papermill, Racondo Run, Trooper Hole, 81 Hole, Town Pool, Long Bridge, Stair Case, Black Hole, Lower Fly Zone and the Wire Hole. We caught at least two fish out of every spot listed. There were also a ton of spots that are not popular pools where we landed one in.

If you have a chance to go... go!

So basically any spot deeper than your knees is holding fish, that's so beautiful, Lol
