    The Trout Beautiful Project, Inquiry

In a recent post ("I had to do it"), a few inquired about a particular type of breeding/hatchery process that makes the trout more vibrant in color, and also obtain many other features of "wild" trout. The article, written by Michael Lawler Smith, is entitled "The Trout Beautiful Project", and was featured in September issue of Fly Fisherman magazine.

Dr. Rick Barrow's trout-feeding techniques/experiments "produced young hatchery trout with more vibrant colors and marking than regular hachery trout." In addition, many features of the trout were enhanced, ie: size and lenght of pectoral fins; other markings (spotting); and overall profile (shape) of the fish.

That's the one! I didn't see this post before. I wonder what the cost of such a program would be?

I would like to see the diet that the hatcheries in NY are. The two year olds that they stock are beautiful.

What section on the Brodhead? I've only fished the gorge, but there were some pretty fish in there.

ok what time? where will we meet? I usually fish over the levy under the bridge and down to where McMichaels comes in and then drive down to the sewage plant and hike in to fish the gorge, but if there is a better way I'm down.

no... we were talking about the KLG. I have to go to a wedding tomorrow afternoon so I have to stay close. I would think that TU has stocked it two times in addition to the State fish.

The plan for tomorrow is still up in the air. I have to confer with Juice. I am open to suggestion. I'll fish either Gorge.
