    Allen reels

Just got my Allen fly reel the other day and so far pretty impressed with it, especially for the money 105.00. Machined alluminum not stamped, a carbon disc drag system that feels pretty smooth and a large drag knob to easily adjust the tension. Also real easy to switch it from left to right hand. Dealing with the owner Justin was a real pleasure too. I ordered the reel and it was at my house in 3 days. Not bad I must say......

    Re: Allen reels

I just ordered 450 hooks from Justin on Friday. I'll keep everyone posted with the results. For the money, if half of the hooks hold up, it will still be a bargain.

I also ordered like 600 tungsten beads from riplips. I'll keep you posted on that as well.

I was thinking about going with a ross entry reel, but may try an allen for an extra rod I have laying around.

Glad you like it Frank. I might have to check it out one day when we fish next. I was looking at them, Orvis was clearing out the old Mid Arbors, for $89 if you can still find them. I just bought one and it balances out my Streamflex perfectly.

In regards to the hooks, I've ordered a ton from Justin already. Always a pleasure to work with and I haven't had a single deformed hook, so aiming for a success rate of 50% will leave you extremely pleased. Has anyone tried their rods?

    Re: Allen reels

I found the drags to be choppy with too much start up inertia and the wire gauge on their hooks is a little big for my likeing.

B, Which one did you buy? I don't see any of that with the 5/6 Alpha. Actually it is alot like my battenkill

Tim, yea for the price the hooks are ok . I did find however that in a bag of size 14 I got some 16 and 14s. Pretty funny hugh?

    Re: Allen reels

It's funny that you mention that Frank, because the same day I posted that I had never had any problems, I found my first one. A size #12 2488 had a really long hook point. Almost made a full 'U'. Still, one out of a thousand(s) is not bad at all. I'll have to take a look at your reel sometime. They sure look really nice. I love the custom colors.
