This pattern was designed by Sandy Pittendrigh, the ADMINISTRATOR at Montana Riverboats, he whacked 'em on the Yellowstone with this fly, this past Summer. I will use it on the East Walker and Owens Rivers - as well as Hot Creek...I have no doubt about it's effectiveness.

How do you tie in the collar?
I tie something really similar, sans the deer hair collar and it does really well in the spring and early summer. It probably gets them year round, but I don't really fish it inless I see those worms out and about.
As the old saying goes ,their is nothing new in flyfishing.

I agree Caddisman. It really is hard to come up with anything truly original, but we each have our own flies that work for us, and that's why we keep going back to them. Here are two of the patterns that I tie for the rock worms. The second one hasn't been fished yet, but I added some brown because I looked at some naturals, and they do have some brown blended in on them.
Hi Tim
Try adding a single strand of yellow crystal flash for a rib and see what you get on the green ones, maybe rootbeer on the brown ones. nice flies by the way.
Great minds think alike.

this version has worked very well for me. as mentioned, tough to be original, but I am amazed at all of the subtle variations out there.
