    Delaware Shad

    So far its been a good year for shad. Water levels are good now for flyfishing too. Steady fishing around Worthington State Park

    years ago my intro to shad on the delaware was rather accidental. i had walked down to the river early one morning in search of spinner sucking spotted bonefish. when i got to the shallow back eddy there was a giant school of shad gently milling around, still in their night time resting mode. the sun hadn't yet come over forcing them back into dark water. i tied on a poto wet fly and twitched it across the snout of a few, eventually getting some interest and then a take. it was a good ride, but nothing like with a the fresh down river shad .

    My dad has been fishing Worthington for a couple of weeks now and they have been doing real well. I'll be down there later this week doing some turkey hutning and shad fishing as well. I'm bringing my fly rod this time seeing the water is low. Never used my fly rod for shad before, should be interesting. If you see a blue Dodge pickup with CT plates stop and introduce yourself.
