    Bamboo Restoration

Hello all, I have a bamboo rod that was given to me a few years back, and it looks as if it is in need of restoration: new guides, new real seat, new cork, etc. And, it also needs a re-cambering. Could someone recommend a good restorer in the New England area (or anywhere else for that matter)?

Hope Heron dont mind, but I'll refer you to another forum.

The guy, Andrew Manchester, really seems to know his stuff. You might try to get in touch with him.

Heres a link to a good thread.

Will do, thanks Slo. Would you happen to have a ballpark estimate on the fee for a complete restoration?

On another note, how's the fishing at the Deerfield this past week? I regret to say that I haven't been up in about two weeks. I'm planning on fishing for about 3 weeks STRAIGHT at the end of June and July. Will you be fishing up there then?

    Re: Bamboo Restoration

Got out Friday night and picked up one on a big brown streamer; a Rainbow about 15". I also got a 7 or 8 inch Rainbow on a Usual. Really nice looking fish with no damaged fins... Dont know if it was river hatched or hatchery, but it looked really nice. Otherwiswe, it was a very slow night, the bugs never seemed to get going and I didn't nymph much. I should just stick with what I know, DONT FISH DRIES, unless, of course, there are a bazillion fish feeding on the surface.

Good to hear, thanks. I just read the thread by A.Manchester, and like you said, he seems to be the man I should speak to. I'll try to throw him a not.

By the way, how was the fishing on June 2/3 (free family fishing weekend)?

    Re: Bamboo Restoration

Like you said, a lot of the smaller fish (7-10 inches) are in great shape this year. I thought after last year's flooding that it would have decimated all of the younger fingerlings. Meanwhile, I've got a handful of fish so far this year in the 13-16'' range that were in terrible condition. . .deep scratches, damaged fins (no fins), and other serious wounds.

The best fish of the year so far was a 18.5'' brown that I caught on a very cold day at the end of February. . .the only fish that day, but a good one. Great shape, not a single mark on him, and beautiful hooked jaw.
