    brook trout

I am going out with my dad to get some brook trout this year at birch lake and we dont know what flies to use they were very quit when i was there last year but i snaged one by the tail (i thought it was a beast when on the rod but only 15in when on the boat) which i guese isnt bad but not a beast.
i got alot with an yellow nymph that i lost.

we are tying some royal cachman wet flies and
some small wooly buggers they are suspost to work good acording to some random sites on google. i made a amazing yellow stone fly that worked amazing like every cast get a strike but one horable day my line snapped on a tree. cant remember how i tied it and havent had luck with brooks since.

What are some of your guys flies for brookies in lakes

pardon my ignorance...but where is said Birch Lake located?

and if your yellow stone worked every cast...why not use it again?

Just for future reference, for tying, try your best buy as much as you can for as cheaply as possible, saves money and headaches from running out of material. Also when you have a flie that works, be sure to set one aside as an example so you can remember what it looks like and how it works, by the way, don't you have bull trout up there?

    Re: brook trout

ya we do have a lot of them a little closer to the rocky mountains and a small population by red deer. i have never realy fished them, but up in the kaninaskis country my buddy got a 9 pounder on a small sise 14 orange minow and a pink marabu tail. hes pretty proud of that.

i got a bunch of dubbing and stuff today so ill tye one up and mayby post it if i figure out how to post pics. and maybe the minnow too. ive got a slite idea of what it looked like so i will try.

Good, can't wait to see the photos,
also to post a pic, create photobucket account, upload your image, then copy the direct link which pops up when you put your mouse over the pic, then paste the link between, [img][img] in the middle. To get this, click on the image button which is to the right of the red f button on your post reply too bar with the smileys listed. Hope this helps.
