The First Baetis of the Year...

Are hatching in SE PA!! The weather was a warm 50 degrees today. We were met by a great hatch of midges. As we fished, I noticed some mayflies fluttering on the surface, and yes, they were BWOs!!! I know that winter has really just begun, but seeing those flies hatching today gives hope that it will soon be over.

I saw ay least 50 of them in an hour and a half today, so that means that in the next few weeks that the hatch should build in intensity and offer some dry fly fishing....

I noticed a few really small BWO this morning as well. It was nice to see. No significant hatches or risers for me, but the flies were a great little surprise.

I know! I get chills when I see them for the first time in the new year. They let you know that the season is going to get cranking soon!
