Hey there everyone,
for the last 10 years, i have always used florocarbon for my nymph fishing (includes shortline nymph fishing). I have always used floro I seem to have really good control of the flies and very good contact with the point fly.. (overal good drift, control of the nymphs)
Over the last 6 months i have started using a nylon tippet - very soft nylon - the theory being , softer, nicer drift, fooool more fish to take my fly - happier days fishing.
I noticed that using nylon the contact doesn't seem to be as nice, and i seem to miss takes now- or when I land a fish, the fly is in the corner of the mouth rather than being in the front / upper lip like I'd aways hook them with Floro.
I even had a really funny scenario today..
There was about 5 fish in a waist deep gut (rainbows)- using nylon I was shortling moving against the water (upstream) - I must have put 40 cast through these fish without a take... I was getting down and I thought I was getting a good drift.. I change fly size smaller and event went thinner in nylon tippet 010 and was using cased caddis (i stomach pumped a couple of fish earlier on).
After 10 minutes without a take, I thought this was strange, and i've had the same scenario a few days before with fish completely ignoring my flies. When I used Floro in the past, i'm sure i'd didn't struggle as much as this :-(... Anyways, i decided to go back to floro (after 6 months).. Put on 014 as the tippet and used the same flies I was using with the nylon. 3 cast later I hooked the first of the 5 fish.. next 4 minutes I hooked another 2... ahhh!!!!! weired..
your thought's would be much appreciated.
what tippet do you guys perfer for Euro Nymphing?
cheers
