    SALMON RIVER REPORT

Just got back and what a week. Fished down low and rewarded with numerous fresh, chrome. Even caught some colored up Coho's and big brown's. Flies's consisted of globug's, sucker spawn in blue, pink and orange. Small green caddis also produced. On a down note, my 2hr old Sage 12'6 5wt. spey broke on a 15lb steelie, which I somehow landed. All in all a great trip, will be going up first week in dec.

    - What size flies were you using (particularly the sucker spawn).

    - I live in Syracuse ... but never really get up to the Salmon River that much. Total novice at the steelhead/salmon thing, even though been fly-fishing for trout for 20+ years now.

    Thanks!!!

John, I was using daiichi X-points in size 12, and a few 10's but this time of year through the spring I fish mostly smaller flies. Hope this help's. Raguz13

Good job on the great catches! Sorry about the rod. I haven't gotten up there yet. That will change in the near future.

    - Thanks for the information.

    - I have tons of #14 pink sucker spawn that I use down in PA. Will have to give them a try sometime when I get up to the Salmon River.

    - Weather this fall has been superb. Can't believe it was 65 and sunny here yesterday (11/08) in tundra-land (as I call it).

    Aaron:

    - Are you up this way today (Mon: 11/09)? If you are, drop me a line.

    - Weatherman is calling for 75 degrees today. Supposed to be nice for next seven days (50-55 degrees). Seven days is as far out as the weather guys go on tv.

    Re: SALMON RIVER REPORT

Unfortunately not! I am sitting here at silent sustained reading in my classroom. My friend said if you couldn't land a bunch of steelhead this weekend on the SR then you should quit fishing! I wish that I had time to get over there and terrorize those fish!

    Re: SALMON RIVER REPORT

I guess I should quit fishing! The section we fished on Saturday was kind of slow for us. Nick got one steelhead and one brown, I caught two browns. We did see a few guys land some fish near trooper hole, but it was packed. We fished upriver from there. Only saw two guys land fish up there. One on egg sacks, another on a rapala. lol

There were definitely fish in there though. At least we didn't get skunked like a lot of the guys we talked to!
