    Request for our Followers

    All,

There have been a few forums and imitators of TPO popping up all over the internet. No problem. They lack the content and quality members we have here. However, as a request out of fairness to Alain, Aaron, and all the rest who contribute... Please give credit where it's due. Just a little a mention of TPO or whomever contributed the info would be appreciated. I know you all already mention TPO to help out frequently, but just don't forget to cite your source.

    Thanks as always!

    Justin

    Re: Request for our Followers

I recently made a post on several sites concurrent with this one (Rockstar section) about coiled sighter construction. I did this to make sure I receive credit for these design ideas. The coiled sighter design methods are exclusively my own and have greatly benefited TPO members, including Aaron.

Sometimes I feel like I don't get the credit I deserve for doing all that work and spending all that money on monofilament!

This is the same reason one might write an article about a specific fly pattern, when it is perceived that others may be copying it.

I don't see the harm in doing this. Since this is an open forum without remuneration for user-contributed content, I don't think that TPO "owns" any of the intellectual property.

    Re: Request for our Followers

I think when you have a viable and informational online community such as ours, there will always be others who will want to aspire to the same level. Its a wonderful thing to be able to come to the TPO site and learn from such an assemblage of experienced fly fishermen. I sometimes marvel at the quality and detail of many of the contributions from anglers all over the country. Its difficult to duplicate that in any form of similarity. Not only has TPO been a sounding board for high level exchange, it has brought folks like me up from the dredges of many fish-less excursions. Juice, I think it is a point well made that we remember where we learned all this stuff and promote the site as we move along and share with others. Too often we tend to forget little details like that.

    Alain,

Credit given where credit is due. I am more than happy to offer you credit on any contribution. As a matter of fact, if you ask, I would be more than happy to go out of my way in helping you establish credit through thankful posts or even providing disclaimers of ownership on the post. I certainly wouldn't claim ownership of any info on the site that isn't my own idea. To this point I simply ask our members, even aaron to remember where they learn stuff and show a little gratuitous loyalty for the free and bountiful info. Ill be the first one to say thank you to both you and Aaron for all you contribute! I'm going to lock this down, as it was a simple request and not meant as any sort of agitator. Thanks to all our members for loyally contributing to and favoring our community! We appreciate it!
