    946 eggs and nothing on

    A steelhead fanatic (aka DrDaveTheRave) reminds me it's almost egg time again.

    I was just browsing an online catalog and noticed my favorite egg-tying material McFlyfoam is available in at least 44 different colors. Naturally, this let's you make 44 different solid-colored egg patterns.

    Many of us, however, prefer to make eggs from 2 colors, and I couldn't help but think about the possibilities. If you type

    44!/(2!*(44-2)!)

    into any Google search window, you will see that

    946

    two-color combinations are possible! So, on a hard-fished stream, give those fall/winter fish something to choose from!

    Of course, in the extreme 4-color "Clown egg" category, there are 135,751 combinations, so hurry up and get tying.

    Being a math teacher, I was wondering if you knew how many permutations of two colors are possible?

    Instead of pink in the middle surrounded by yellow, you might want yellow in the middle surrounded by pink. This would be 1 combination (you don't care about the order) but 2 permutations (you do care about the order).
    As far as fishermen go, Captain Ahab was pretty tame.
