    Predator vs Legend

Not sure if you guys heard about this. Dejon and Aaron fished together in central PA a few days ago. I'm not sure if they were treating it like a true comp, or not. But, from Dejon's website, it looks like the predator did us proud.

"Predator knocks out Legend in the first round! Stunning and decisive TKO!!!!!"

    Good job, Aaron!

    Re: Predator vs Legend

Not to go on a Aaron ass kissing spree but... I have fished with Aaron hundreds of times. I have seen him fish next to some of the best in the world. ALL ELSE EQUAL, nobody beats aaron if he doesn't want to be beat.

Why? Because he's nuts. I've never seen anyone want to do something better then everyone else so badly. If it was the national championships and it meant beating you by one fish, I'm not sure Aaron wouldn't snap your neck to win! HAHAHAHAH. But seriously.

Too bad it's a sport that gets no looks from the world. If it was golf or some other hobby where a true competitive circuit was set up, there isn't a doubt in my mind he would be near the top if not at the top. Too bad being someone in this sport is more about ass kissing and connection making and not more about who is the very best.

If anyone ever wants to watch excellence in action, just spend some time watching him work the water.

If you are passionate about it. Put together an independent association, like the North Eastern US Fly Fishing something and put to together a few annual competitions. We have a bunch of people on here and we all know somebody that knows somebody. It is definitely possible.

I've actually talked about this with Chris and for a fly fishing comp to get more attention in this country I think the whole way they are done would need to be changed. Think about it bass fishing tournaments are a big deal in this country and not just in the south. So is redfish tournaments for that matter. I think the main differnce is that those tournaments are about big fish and not numbers. Lets face it no one cares if you catch fifty ten inch fish but you catch five twenty inch fish and you might turn some heads. I don't think this would be to hard to do either. Each angler gets a judge just like now and only you five biggest fish count. I also think the beat system is about the dumbest thing out there. You can put up bad numbers because you drew a bad part of the river how dumb is that. Why not make everyone start at the same part of the river and they need to be back at a certain time. Might sound crazy but it works for other fish species and those guys a flying around in 250 HP boats. Not to mention it would be fun to watch.

This could be organized on a local level very easily. I used to fish amateur bass tournaments and the way we worked it was each person had an entry fee of $50 (you could make it whatever) and the winner got all the money at the end of the day ( you could split it between first, second and third or whatever) as long as the person running it doesn't get a cut its legal. You wouldn't even need the judges each person could just take a photo of the fish next to the measuring device which could be supplied by the tournament director (we did it that the person who won the last tournament was the next tournament director). The measuring device wouldn't even need to be complicated it could be a laminated piece of colored paper that you could change the color each tournament to make sure the pic was from that day. Thats just my idea and it was a fun way to maybe win a few hundred dollars or more and if you didn't do well you were only out the entry fee not the cost of traveling all over the country. Forgive me if this is the most complicated post ever to read.

Oh yea Aaron kicks ass on the river and I agree no one stands a chance against him.

I like your idea Nick. I've fished a few bass and walleye tourneys on Lake Erie and the system does work. There is a bit of a "home field" advantage but it balances out across the different venues.
Adding to what Walshmiko said below I came to this site a total novice. In a few months I was outfishing my buddy who has been at it for the last ten years. But its not just the fishing really. Aaron, Alain, Juice, Rubberlips, BlackLabel, and everyone else here have fueled a passion in me that I haven't felt in many years.
Oh, and if you hold the comp on my creek, you are all toast!!!!

    Re: Predator vs Legend

I've fished with Aaron a few times and I have to say he is quite impressive with his line in the water hooking up every time he sees a tree. BUT I'd like to see Aaron be such a fierce fisherman that he need not cast a single line or tie up a quintuple wet fly cast. I'd be truly impressed if when he approached the stream in his normal stealthy manner he would perform some sort of finger snapping gesture that made all the trout in the water jump onto the bank and begin to bow at his feet. or perhaps kiss his didymo free wader boots.

On a side note Aaron really is impressive...he'll be receiving a message soon about fishing with hopes that he answers it.

There's only one thing I can say...

He's the best...period, and I've never seen anyone better. Even though it's impossible to out-fish him and he makes you look like a beginner no matter how good you are. It's a real pleasure just to watch him fish, it's really something else. Not to mention when someone asks, you get to say "yeah I fish with that guy" lol He's one hell of a fisherman, but to me being a great fisherman isn't anything unless your a great person and Aaron certainly is that.
