(Big) Pine Creek and Tribs-PA Canyon

My wife and I are heading up for a few days of camping. Anyone familiar with the area? We will probably hit some warm water fishing on the Pine but would like to explore Slate Run and some of the other tribs. Any recommendations out there?

Slate Run Tackle Shop or Big Meadows Fly shop will have the most current fishing conditions. Both Cedar and Slate are freestoners that have a normal level of difficulty to them. Probably double that for the summer with low / clear water. Temps are usually good though. Terrestrials and a stealthy approach may be your best bet for those two.

That has been the name of the game everywhere. A little rain the night before is the ticket, at least most of the time. I will check out the Slate Run Tackle. I assume that is in down town Slate Run?

I agree with Kaz head up to Slate or Cedar if Big Pine above Waterville is not producing. A ride up the PA Grand Canyon - Pine Creek Gorge is great visit if you have not been there before. Another store I use to frequent that can provide up to date stream conditions and what flies are on.

Re: (Big) Pine Creek and Tribs-PA Canyon

Thanks all. We did stop and visit Slate Run store, but fished Lynman Run, Asaph Run, and Little Pine Creek. All were beautiful, fun, and productive. My wife even caught her first brookie on a dry. I do want to go back to the Little Pine. I was not even in the DHALO section, just the section up-stream of the lake and was hitting the bows. No significant hatch or anyhing just taking in on small caddis flies.

And oh, the canyon was beaufiful. We hiked the trail from Leonard Harrison park down. (Up was a bit harder).

I'm heading there this weekend for 3 days with my wife and 3 sons. We are camping at the Leonard Harrison park. Plan to do a little hiking, biking and I'll be holding a few sessions of Fly Fishing 101. Can't wait.

We stayed at LHSP too. Site 22. Nice and small camping area, only 28 sites total. In 4 days we saw black bear, 3 eagles, many many deer and fauns, turkeys, and many species of birds. Not to mention catching the trifecta in trout species. All wild except a stocked rainbow on the Little Pine Creek.

This is a picture of the Little Pine Creek between the DHALO section and the lake at the park. Pretty beautiful.

I assume this was a stocked rainbow, still beautiful.

We want to go back up and just explore Slate and Cedar Runs next time.

Sounds like you had a great time up in the Pine Creek area. I did not hear you mention about coons at night in the campground going through the garbage cans. Maybe the bears beat the coons to the garbage.

The PA Grand Canyon is site to take in when in the area.
