All the best to Team USA!
Loren told me that he was going?
I guess Loren is not going. This is from Dejon's site:
Team USA has once again departed for this year’s World Fly Fishing Championships. The 2009 Championships are taking place June 5 - 12th in Drymen, Scotland. We will participate in 8 days of practice prior to the event and will be sending updates daily. I'm sure it was a tactical decision based on World Championship experience and Lake proficiency. Everyone on that squad has a strong makeup in 1 or both of those categories.
I highly doubt though that Loren won't make the WFFC squad somewhere in the near future... the guy's just a fish catching machine.
good luck to all involved...
would love to see more coverage of these types of events.
Yeah is there anywhere to watch some coverage? Or do you have to be rich and subscribe to the Fly Fishing Channel to watch any of it? ???

When it happens it usually on the FIPS MOUSCHE web page. I am surprised Loren didn't make it. He fishes lakes a lot and has put his time in.
I know Loren practices lake loch style fishing very hard, but alas many of us "Easterners" are afflicted with the same disability: a near to complete lack of suitable practice waters. This is one place the Western boys have a definite leg up on us.... of course when it comes to rivers I think the East has produced and will continue to produce much more well rounded anglers.
Aaron, on another topic. I can't find where it says you can't tie through a hook eye in comp. rules. Can you? You can still technically not have a broken leader and not tie your flies on tag ends.

I have fished those lakes many times myself in the past both for pleasure and during competitive events.
For sure stillwater fishing is a very different deal and the home teams there are pretty much the best at that game.
Leven can be a bitch of a lake at times when few fish are caught during the day.
What l do not understand it that there are a couple of us UK guys that live here that know that game inside and out, we have both fished at International level and would be able to teach and coach the team members stillwater techniques.
I offered my help, but nothing came of it.
I coached the youth team, and in the first year of the event they won silver and gold medals fishing both stillwaters and rivers.
Kudos to the kids who were team members, but also accept the fact they had no idea how to deal with stillwater fly fishing in the UK, but they learned well and did the business when it mattered.

Davy,
You didn't really think the US team was going to break up their little club and do something to put themselves in position to really contend did you? Who would turn down your help when it comes to fishing UK waters, especially stillwater. Vladi is an amazing fisherman, but with more then half the venues being stillwater and the UK being your home, you would think they would be smart enough to figure out where the real help was.
I hate to say it but often this thing appears like more of a social club then a team formed with the goal of winning.
Typical.
When I buy an island and form my own country, you are the first guy I ask for help when I start my own team. ESPECIALLY if the comp is in the UK.
