    Bushkill Creek C&R 5/30

Water was slightly stained and running a little high and fast. Not much in the way of hatches going on in the late morning and early afternoon while I was there. i talked to an old-timer and he said insect production was way down this year. He said there was no grammon hatch at all this year and that the sulphur hatch was minimal at best, occurring around 4:00 pm. He seemed to think that an overabundance of swallows was taking its toll on the insects. Other than him, I had the whole creek to myself.
I ended up with 3 fish, not many for the time I spent on the water but better than nothing I guess. I caught all three in the plunge pool by the middle bridge. One small brookie, one nub rainbow and one brown. I also hooked a nice smallmouth further downstream under the old railroad trestle until he swam away with my anchor. Anyway, here's the brown I got, lots of spots on this guy.

Here's a shot of the creek for those who have never seen it. Its hard to believe this is only about a mile outside of crappy Easton.

I fished with a fella last night that raved about the stream. I would really like to get up there.

What a stunning little brown. That creek has had some major problems but I am positive that it will rebound and produce epic fishing and hatches. I wfished there for an hour this season and had 6 fish and saw quite a few baetis. I do think that the fish numbers are down but it is not a disaster.

Aaron, all of the wild browns that I've caught there this year were around that size so yeah, hopefully they will be part of a comeback. It is a nice creek but like you said the last couple of years have seen some pretty bad times for it. Nature has a way of balancing out things. All you have to do is give it a chance.
