Excellent report! I know it works great, but that stonefly seems a bit heavy to me for that water type. If you get hung up a lot, you might consider something lighter (and lighter doesn't have to mean smaller). Nice report, thanks.
Headed over to the Pequannock today. Got to the first spot and before I even put my rod together someone else pulled up. We started talking and when I asked him if he fly fished he answered he just dunks worms (I swear those were his words). He then told me about the nice 14 inch brown he got the other day and how the meat was nice and red. Maybe one day they'll make it catch and release only for the browns (I can dream). After that I went to my favorite spot for wild fish and found it had been invaded by stocked brookies. After weeding through about ten or so brookies I finally got a brown. After that I headed over to the park just north of 287 and got a few nice looking rainbows and a couple of browns over there. There were caddis hatching today and a few small mayflies here and there. Did see alot of fish rising today also. I stuck to my nymphs though, all the fish took either my stonefly nymph or my hare and copper dropper.
My favorite spot on the river
My reward for weeding through the stocker brookies
Either this years stockers look really good or these are holdovers???
Got these guys in the park
Yummy

Nice job, Nick! Looks like you ended up doing a little better then when I talked to you this morning.
Live, learn, and then get Luvs.

I know where that big rock is ;D
That camera does really nice underwater video. You and Chris are putting a hurtin' on those wild fish.
Alain: Thanks. Yea I was thinking about a smaller bead and maybe .015 lead or no lead at all for the shallower water. It works good in faster water and deeper pools but does hang up a good bit in the shallower runs. Beleave it or not in that top pic the water on the left bank is between waist deep and chest deep and by the big rock in the video is probally over waders deep.
Chris: When I went over to the park I got those bows and two more browns. Not a bad day.
Aaron: I figured you know where that rock is. Thats the first I've really fished down there but it won't be the last.
looks like you had another great day. Wish I can get out with you lately but I have no car yet. Still waiting for the title to sell it to the body shope and get something new. From the looks of the fins on those bows I would say holdover. All the ones Ive been catching that were just stocked in the gorge, have fins so tiny and sharp they hurt to hold them lol.
BlackLabel, Nice pics of the scenery and trout and the morsels they love to eat. I like the video too. I love the colors on those browns.
