Review: Echo2 7 wt. 12'4'' Scandinavian Spey Rod
I got this rod new for an outstanding deal, and got to use it last week on New York's Salmon River. It is a med. to med-fast spey rod, perfect for steelhead. One of the great features is that it comes in a hard cordura case, and with TWO tips. One is for "Accuracy", and the other for "Distance". This makes the rod either med. or med-fast. Comes with a lifetime warranty.
I brought many steelhead to net with this rod and enjoy it a lot. It is a great setup for a Great Lakes rod. While I used a tradition "spey cast", it can also throw regular one-handed casts with relative ease.
I initially wanted a higher-end rod, but due to two reasons, this rod works fine. 1. I wanted this rod for steelheading, which usually entails enduring severe weather conditions. Simply put, knowind the terrain I was going to be in, I needed a rod that I wouldn't be afraid to break, scratch, etc. 2. The higher-end rods are getting ridiculously expensive, and this rod I got on the world's largest internet auction for a great deal, approximately 1/3 of it's retail value. While I strongly support our local shops, like HRO, at rare times I seek the internet for deals like this.
I believe the retail for this rod is in the $369.00 region. The Two-tip feature is unique, and something I know will come in handy at just the right moment. At full price, I would consider this rod.
