    Renzetti presentation 2000

    I have been searching for a bench vise to meet my requirements for a few weeks and ended up with a renzetti presentation 2000. I have been using an HMH spartan pedastal for a couple of years and tied tons of flies on that vise it has searved me well and will continue it's life as my traveler. I wanted to upgrade to something a wee bit fancier because flytying is a major part of life for me it's how I unwind after a hard days work and just something to flex the old creativity muscle. An upgrade was an easy justification. I needed something with good jaw power, clearance behind the hook, weight because I typically don't opt for c clamps, a head that pvots up and down, true rotary wasn't a selling point for me (I have used inline for years and become accustomed to it) and also a good reliability/warranty. The presentation has great holding power so far on saltwater hooks 1/0 and up down to some 22 glass bead bwos' that I tied up to test. I will need to get used to the adjustment screw on the jaws, but that will come. Clearance is nice and also adjustable the arm has an adjustable joint which kind of turned me off at first, because I can't stand things moving around when tying but the elbow joint is solid. The pedastal is also diesel so moving around even on bass bugs is non existant. Lastly renzetti has a good name in vises been here for a while and I know some folks who have dealt with there customer service and had decent to great help with obtaining parts and so forth. I looked at dynaking, regals, wasatch J vice (super vice but pricey), also law and the like, but the renzetti fit the bill. Someday that J vice will be mine.

    I am an ardent Regal fan, but my next vise may also be a J-Vice (from South Africa). I also like the vise from the Czech Republic's Jan Tvrdek, called the "Rotary Vise JT Black," available from Jan Siman.

    I am not sure why some manufacturers say "vise" and some say "vice." In America, "vise" is the proper name, although we might also say that fly tying is our "vice!"

    Some of the european vise/vice companies put out some stylish looking vices some expensive ones also. I also looked hard at the regal revolution home state heroes you know, but I heard from people about the hook launching with improper placement of smaller sized hooks and normally this wouldn't even bother me because I'm sure it is rare if at all, but with a 15 month old runnin' around the last thing I would want is her to find a rogue size 22 wall riccochet something I wouldn't want in the back of my mind even if it is untrue. I do like the look and tradition and bulldog grasp of the regals though.
