I was looking for a cheap reel for my 4wt and ended up getting the Flycast. Its not the nicest thing out there but for the price I like it alot. The reel is really smooth especially since its not a disc drag. The drag is also really loud if you like that kind of thing. The look of the reel is also nice doesn't have that under $100 look to it. The bad is that it doesn't the super tight tolerances of a machined reel but its not so you get what you pay for. The other bad is the loud drag if you don't like that kind of thing. Overall its a nice reel for under $100 and its from Ross so it has a lifetime warranty.

I have one for my Bass fishing outfit. Its not the greatest like you said but for the price you can't beat it.

My brother got one for his son, he said for the $ you cant beat it or go wrong. Im pretty sure he wont be going for world records with it but its solid and servicable. FYI Fly Rod and Reel, had a little sub $130 reel shoot out. I am probably going to be buying most of my future reels in that category(unless it is a Tuna or Tarpon reel) its just too hard to ignore the price point and value in that category. I have too many reels as it is(my idea of protecting against the recession...sell one when I need some gas or food LOL).

I just purchased the Flycast 2 the other day. Got it on sale which was a bonus. Great reel so far for the the money!

Its not a bad reel just keep it clean. The littlest bit of dirt and it and you know it right away.

The whole reason I bought a new reel in the first place is kinda funny. A few days ago at Churches Pool on the Farmington I hooked a nice brown, switched over to the reel, and my reeling knob broke off right in the middle of landing this fish. So the fish is 15-20ft out right and I had to hand crank the spool to land this fish. After netting and releasing this beauty I look at the reel and just laugh! The reel I had was a $20 Martin I bought 15 plus years ago. This real has been through hell and back, it's been to Canada, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and New York! After that moment, I decided it was time for a new reel. I really loved that reel, even though it was the cheapest thing in my outfit it did its job. Even bass fishing in Texas this thing landed the beasts! Well worth that $20 bucks my parents gave me for mowing the lawn!

Of the name brand reels on the market, in the low $100 trout size reels, IMHO you cannot touch the Waterworks/Lamson Konic series- it's not machined, but it has a big arbor & the same drag as their $400+ ULA Force series. $119 for the #1 (3 #3/4 weight), and $129 for the #2 (5/6 model). Nothing I've seen is even close. You could land a big Steelhead on these reels, no problem.

What do you mean by it is not machined.

The Konic frame and spool are pressure cast aluminum. The more high dollar reels in their line up, and lots of other reel companies are machined. Basically meaning they are carved out of a hunk of aluminum with a milling machine.
