    Wild Browns

Met up with RipnLips this morning to get some early season NY stockers. Long story short Chris hooked up a few times and I gut skunked. Heading home from my butt kicking in NY I had to hit my favorite river the Pequannock before the season closes on Sunday. Plus I had to get a fish on my new Loon rod (Thanks Alain). When I got to the river it was clear as could be and low. I knew I would need to be stealthy and long lining seemed like the best option. I landed three browns in about two hours, the biggest being in the 14 inch range. All I can say is this place would be even better than it is if it were taken care of the way it should. Oh yea and I really like the Loon rod.

    Super clear water

Got all three from this hole

    First brownie

    Second brownie

I have a good idea where those rocks are... Does the town begin with a B?

You are right. The river has many of those fish and it could have a good bunch more if the flows were increased.

A friend of used to own a fly shop over there so I used to go fishing there all the time. If I would have some free time I would fish there for an hour or two. It amazed me how nearly every section of that stream held a good amount of fish. The stretch between the lakes holds some real monsters as well.

My favorite stretch was one mile above and below 287. The stretch above the McDonalds in towm all the way up to Rt. 23 was very good as well.

Were Those Fish Caught From Lower or Upper, or Way Upper? Any of you guys ever fish above Smith Mills bridge? I love fishing that river on the low side even though those fish may be the smartest in the state..Few summers ago I got a wonderful brown On that river right in between nor and so bound lanes of rt 23..Was Around 16in with the largest kipped jaw I have ever seen..Theres some train tracks right above that follow that river for some bit makes walking around that place so much easier...

    Re: Wild Browns

I caught those fish in the lower section. I fish around the Smith Mills bridge sometimes. I've actually caught a decent amount of fish from under the bridge and had a very large fish (probally 16 inches) flash at a streamer under the bridge. The way the fish just kinda smacked it, it seemed more pissed that the streamer was in its space than actually trying to feed on.

You never know what your in for standing under that bridge, Can be good, bad, or ugly. One time there was an accident above me on 23 on the bridge that made me almost jump into the water. then two sec later I almost got trampled by a bear that was spooked by the crash.. My life flashed in front of me
