Little Lehigh + wild trout stream bonus

Nick and I fished the Little Lehigh today. Didn't get too crowded until about 10 oclock. We caught quite a few fish in the few hours that we were there today. 3 of the fish I took were on a dry fly(the first fish on dries of the year for me), it almost felt like spring. One of the fish I took on a dry was a nice sized brown, which also happened to be my first brown of the year.

The fish we caught at the Lehigh were all pretty skinny. The head on 3 or 4 of the fish i caught was the fattest part of the fish. It's like they get pounded so hard there that they are afraid to eat. Luckily not too afraid, because we managed to do pretty good.

We decided to stop at a wild trout stream in jersey on the way home and both of us took one tiny fish on dries. Bugs were coming off the water like you wouldn't believe. We didn't stay too long, but it's def. a place i would go to again.




They were just little minnows, but it felt better to catch these little guys than all the stockers in the Lehigh combined!

The weather was great today, but all these fair weather fisherman really make a guy miss old man winter.

Absolutely. No crowds, wild fish I couldn't ask for anything more ( Even if the fish fit in my palm ).

nice fish espically the natives. i am sure they made up for their lack of size with their fiesty nature.

The thing that makes me like the wild fish more than fish at places like the lehigh is you actually have to use some stealth and really read the water.

Places like the lehigh have hundreds of fish stacked up in the most retarded places. The place we went has a small number of wild fish, so if you catch them, you know you did a couple of things right. You presented the fly in the correct manner, you found a place where fish might be holding, and you stayed stealthy enough as to not spook them. This creek was TINY, so all you had to do was stand up, and you spooked any fish there may have been. Don't get me wrong, i love to catch big fish, it's just something about catching a wild fish that makes you feel like you might be doing something right. Their beauty definitely makes up for their lack of size.

Nice fish Rip, especially those babies. I agree with you 100%. Catching those little natives is rewarding and I have really taken a shine to fishing for them in my little home water. One of the nicest things about it is that its only a ten minute walk from my front door.

We liked it a lot.

I mean, it really needs a clean up, but the water is really nice. There was a huge hatch going on while we were there. You are a lucky man to live so close.

I really liked it. I must admit I had second thoughts when I got there, lots of random garbage and lots of traffic noise but you forget about in a few minutes. I also like how the deep holding water is relative to the stream. They were in shin to knee deep water. All in all nice little stream I will fish again.
