    Hendricksons

since my initial intro was less than stellar allow me to offer up some useful info to make up for it. these guys are probably the most famous of eastern hatches and definitely a favorite of mine. since we just got another 9" of snow last night something from a warmer time of year looks good.

    HENDRICKSON
Ephemerella Subvaria or the Hendrickson is the first real hatch of large
mayflies for the year. They begin to hatch around the 18th of April in WNY & last
about two weeks. They are 12-14 in size with the males being smaller &
darker than the females. Emergence begins around 2pm & will last an
hour or two. Spinners are rusty colored & usually at dusk or occasionally
in the morning if nights are too cool. Three Tails. The peacock emerger is particularly good on tough fish.

    Nick,

Your photography is outstanding, especially the Hendrickson nymph. That may be the best picture of that stage I have seen.

From where did you catch all those beautiful wild browns? The Catskills?

    Neithan,
What kind of camera did you use ? Those are beautiful pictures.

    Re: Hendricksons

Thanks for the great contribution! I like the spun snoeshoe as well and will be making some of those with a z-lon shuck! I love the Hendrickson hatch! The highlight of that hatch has to be the spinnerfalls. They usually bring out the big boys!

thank you for the kind replies.

    yeah the catskills..... :

the cam would be either a Nikon d1, d100 or d70 some of those may be from any of those cams. all the macros and likely most of the fish shots were with the 105 micro lens.
