Took Mandy out for her first fishing outing in Winter conditions for a few hours this afternoon, and Fishing Fred met up with us also. Prepared with multiple layers of fleece, Simms gloves, the heaviest SmartWool socks & liners, handwarmers & toewarmers, she was nice & comfy. Fortunately, the sun was also out and the wind was almost non-existent.
While the fishing wasn't fast & furious, it was a beautiful afternoon, everyone at least pricked trout, and I managed to land a pair of 16" browns, doing it "Euro style":
1st one, a nice fatty, a perfect specimen except for the tiny puncture (heron?) right behind & slightly below her pectoral fin:
Close up & personal:
Brown #2, with a green dye mark behind it's left eye (April '08 2 Year Old? Can't remember which dye mark is which), she liked my egg fly:
Water temp maxed out today at about 34.5 degrees, I suspect after the single digit lows last night that the morning water temp was darn near 32 degrees even. Water flow was about 665cfs in total, which although at least double the normal level was perfect for the spots I wanted to hit.
