Salmon river family trip

I took my wife and son to the Salmon river to show them what the whole Salmon thing was all about.
I now have a new found respect for fishing quides ;D

First off I had to try to get them to a place that was wadeable and not to many snags and of corse were there might be some fish ???

I have to give my wife & son alot of credit I had them up at 4:00am. stood at river side waiting for legal fishing time. and fished from 6:20am untill 7:00pm with only a couple of short breaks during the day. I spent a lot of time tying on hooks swivels & sinkers. The worst part was every time I hooked a fish I had to hand the rod to one of them so they could fight the fish. My son didnt have mutch luck but my wife fought and landed a Salmon that was 39" long & weighed 25lbs. Later on that day see hooked and landed a 28" steelhead all on her own. ;D ;D ;D

When Sue hooked the steelhead see was using a spin rod. When see was fighting the salmon it was one that I had hooked with the fly rod and she now knows what a single action real is. I think she has a pritty good bruse on her fingers . I dont know how she did it but she learned quickly to let go of the handle when the Salmon decided to make a run.

The Salmon fishing was fun but I think I will stick to the steelhead fishing. You should have seen some of the stuff going down on the river. I saw a lot of falling down drunks fishing at the trestle pool not my cup of tea.

Do you eat the salmon? I never have but everyone that I have given them to actually says that they taste really good. Your kid has the "I am the man" look on his face!

No we do not eat them.

The only reason it was on a stringer is because there was 3 kids on the other side of the river that wanted the fish in the worst way that they almost drown themselves trying to cross. Im not sure where they were from but I dont think it was the US.

The steelhead was revived and released unharmed

DAve, AWESOME report! Just seeing those pics filled me with excitement! Your son and wife look hooked for life now. . .does this mean you'll have more "excuses" to visit Pulaski?

Beautiful fish, and what a great Steelhead! Wish I had been there with you.

I know how your wife feels about the bruise on her finger. . .last fall I hooked into a King on the first trip up with Aaron that tore upriver at such a fast pace that the handle bashed the my index finger so hard that it split the skin (leaving it bleeding), and then a bruise that last a few weeks. Worth it. . .totally.
