Farmington River & The American Legion and People's State Park?

I was wonder if anyone has camped at the American Legion State Park campground and fished the Farmington within the State campground? I see that on the map of the Farmington there is a pool designated as the campground pool and was wonder how it fishes? I enjoy camping and thought I would stay there and fish the river within the campground. Is it fly and C&R only? Are there some better fishing spots within the campground? Is there a premium camp site? I'm not looking for any short cuts but it would be my 1st time there and was hoping for some guidance. Any thoughts and or comments on this is appreciated.

I camped there this past weekend. Friday late afternoon uintill dark the fishing was fantastic. fish all over the place. saturday morning was the same. After the storms went through and the water changed color and came up about 2ft it did slow down a bit. The best part about behind the camp ground is the veriety of water you can fish in a short distance of river

The campground pool is one of my favorite dry fly spots and can be fished along the sides in low water if there are 3 plus anglers already in the center of the pool. ON heavy hatches you will see a few big fish rising in the center of the pool which means long, perfect casts. Oddly , I have never yet witnessed any big fish migrating to the shallower head of the pool to feed. I never caught a fish over 16 inches in the fast water at the head of the pool where it gets hammered by the bait and spinner guys.

Hopefully they will add the 1.5 miles and that area will be catch and release in the next two years! I am excited as I was driving up the river today with my client and looking at all of the new water that will be c and r under plan #2!

    Question for FLYDAD

You said you camped there a short time ago what site did you stay at, is it near the river? I would like a site that is on the river so we can see & hear it flowing. Nothing like that sound to relaxe you! What sie would you pick if you had the pick of the campground?

    Thanks again

Sorry I didnt get bact to you sooner just got back from vacation.
It's funny about the state campgrounds you call and they have no vacancy but if you go there and drive through the campgrounds 25% of the sites will be empty.but they will still tell you they have no vacancy.

This year I booked sites 16 18 &20 on three different weekends I think if you like to be close to the river site #18 is the best. its about 200ft from the river and it is also one of the better fishing spots. try to stay away from the camp sites on the west side of the grounds they are close to the road and you get alot of road noise at night. I think if you do a google search you can get a map of the grounds.
