Tulpehocken week of 6/9/08

I have read and have been told that can not know a stream unless you focus on it for a while. Except Wed, I fished the Tully all week. Mostly 2-3 hours at a shot. The fishing is pretty good, or I am getting somewhat better, or both. I see many top-water frustrated fly fisherman (and women) but I have been doing well with the nymphing. I find it helps tremendously when you have a good idea what the depth you are working with.

I have focused on the 3 spots ... Rebers Bridge, under the by-pass, and the confluence of the Cacoosing. Experience is proving to be the best educator.

Out of curiosity what nymphs are you fishing there? Are you using caddis larvae? Try small size 18-20 olive or bright green caddis larvae. If you are not using them now your catch rates will increase big time! Flip over rocks and you should see tons of rock worms. There have been many everytime I have been there. Also, that stream is a caddis factory with so many species of various colors and sizes. I like that place a lot. Maybe I will try to meet you there in the near future.

Aaron Bomber type, emerald green, sort of, with lots of lead and a bead
A bright green caddis larve size 18
A size 18 red brassie (one of my biggest producers)
and a Pheasant Tail with flashback but with black antron thorax
