    Davy Wotton SLF

Hello Everyone- This is my first post on this forum- I live about 30 minutes from the Little "j" in Pennsylvania - I have fished it for almost 20 years.

I am trying to locate dubbing for the Iced cased caddis that was tied for the January 2008 fly of the month.

Not sure if SLF is still selling the Davy Wotton dubbing that was used for the Cased Caddis. "Black Midge" SLF was used for the pattern- I am having a hard time finding anyone selling Davy Wotton Dubbing- Also the "Insect Green" super fine is that a Wapsi product?

I know you can drive yourself crazy trying to find the exact dubbing. Just looking for some help on this.

    thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

The Davy Wotton dubbing is hard to find, but I have located it from Housatonic River Outfitters. It is specifically SLMC16 Black, Midge Pupa. There are other sources too, but you may have to buy the whole cube of 30.

"Insect Green" is also called "Caddis Green." Superfine makes this dubbing, and it's easy to find.

    Hope this is helpful.

You can substitute regular rabbit or Superfine dubbing for the black portion, it's not critical. The Ice Dubbing for the cased portion is the main magic element to that pattern. Wapsi makes & distributes various SLF dubbings, they are currently only selling the SLF Masterclass in their dubbing cubes (not individual packets like they used to) that contain every color they make in it. Like Alain said, I think I still have at least one or two packets of it in black on the wall in the shop. Davy Wotton (the originator of SLF) said he can get me some in individual packets, and also mentioned that Wapsi MAY start selling the packets again- it's awesome dubbing, I hope they do. Call me (Torrey) at the shop at 860-672-1010 and I'll look on the wall, and if I still have some I'd be happy to mail it to you.

The Little J is loaded with cased Brachycentrus Caddis, you will do very well there with the Iced Cased Caddis. Seems like quite a few of the better trout streams in PA have good populations of that insect. The Clarion is LOADED with them.

Looks like I WILL be able to get the SLF Masterclass (in individual packets) from Davy, so hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I will have a decent selection of it in the store.

That's great, please let us know when they arrive. There are a few special blends I would like to get.

Guys, l sold the SLF dubbing company of mine to Wapsi fly lock stock and barrel 9 years ago, they still produce the majority of the ranges l developed. Masterclass is still available in the cubes, the cubes were one of my best ideas here by the way.
But they discontinued the individual packs. No problem l can sort that one.
