Sorry got a little off subject on that last post.

Never turn your back side to the current in fast high water

good tips so far. I have a few:

    1. When wading from midstream to shore, go back on a downstream diagonal rather than perpendicular to the current flow.

    2. Lock arms with a buddy to cross swift sections of river. It really makes a huge difference!

    3. Avoid positioning your body perpendicular to the current. In other words, stand sideways to the current flow.

    Great! Let's keep going.

    Tip
Especially when fishing in the winter or otherwise cold water (say, less than 50deg), don't hitch up your gravel guards too tight. The velcro type guards are great, but when they are too tight, they restrict blood flow to your feet and make your feet even colder. I figured this one out this winter.

    When fishing cold weather...

to keep your feet from sweating and getting cold, Spray with down with anti-perspirant spray.

Your feet sweat more then you think. Even standing in 45degree water

Avoid tippet spools falling down into your waders, forget about it, and next time you go out, it punctures a BIG whole in your waders and you end up fishing in ice cold water up to your knees for the day.

    Always wear a wading belt

Pick up your feet when walking. I know it was already said but VERY IMPORTANT to avoid getting dunked.

    Plus, don't eat yellow snow......

When wading in tough spots, keep both of your arms outstretched to each side, parallel to the water- sorta like a tightrope walker. It also helps to hold your flyrod parallel to the water in one hand. This will all vastly increase your ability to balance in difficult wading conditions.

Before attempting a crossing when you aren't sure if it's doable, send your buddy across first.

Prepare for the inevitable. Have an extra set of dry clothes in the vehicle.
