Ross Reels vs. Lamson Reels

Oh, it doesn't look like plastic. It has a nice matte silver finish to it. Kinda looks like a Nautilus. I agree...your best bet is to check them out in person. Good luck with the decision!

I have a Konic and its had a year on it. First off the drag is apparently the exact same as the more expensive Lamsons for 1/3 the cost. The Konic is cast but supposedly pressure cast so it should hold up better than a standard pressure cast reel. That being said, lots of us poo poo the cheaper cast reels. We are to some degree or other gear sluts...when I got started I used a Cortland cast reel. It lasted for several years and I passed it down to my brother then I got an orvis battenkill, which is still spooled up and on my 6wgt rod..I got a Hardy LRH, a cast reel...which I wish I still had seeing the prices of the new ones ..I paid $60 for it new. I also have a half dozen machined reels. But my last purchase was the Konic. I love it and will get a smaller one for my 4 wgt this week. My point is...there is some really nice stuff available for less.

Lamson's are nice. The only complaint I have with them is the clicker...sometimes the pitch of the click isn't the same when you crank (ex. high pitch at the top of the retrieve and low pitch at the bottom). It's a silly type A personality thing, but as for the actual functionality of the reel... it's superb.
