    Re: Line to leader connection

    Hey slo,

I flag a potential foul there!

Tying the dog to the leader and yelling "where's the kitty" just might qualify as bait fishing.

Whaddaya think guys, can we get a ruling on that?
I spent most of my money on fishing equipment, beer and whiskey, the rest I just wasted.

    Common Yoda,

Please tell us how to make the splice THE WAY YOU DO IT.

Seriously, I'd like to see it. I can test it in the front yard; see if one of my kids can bust me off, better yet, I'll tie on to the dogs leash and say "Where's the Kitty", that's a great test!

    Ok since you asked..

Take nail polish remover with acetone pour into the cap about 3/4 full..

Place your fly line into cap wait about 60 seconds..Remove..

Scrape off coating of line with your finger nail(make sure its completely clean)...

Trim of end of core with sharp scissors so that there is no more than a 1/4 inch of core..

Place a needle into core and slightly into line with coating

Take you leader and cut at angle 45..Remove needle and insert leader into core and about a heavy 1/16 into line with coating

Put one drop of krazy glue on core not more or it wont work in fact make it a small drop..

Wait 15-20 seconds and roll core with glue in your fingers to remove excess glue and air..If you dont wait to do this you will have fly-line stuck to your fingers and wont be able to fish or pick your nose

Wait about a minute ready to fish..

Bait fishing, Absolutely not!! No foul here, there is no kitty , all I have to do is say it (with the right tone of course) and she will go nuts.

If I say "Wanna go for a walk", I'll need the 10 weight 8)

Yo, Thanks for the instructions, I'll give it a shot (with my dry fly line of course).
If the line ain't tight, ya ain't doin it right

    Re: Line to leader connection

I have welded loop on most of my lines.
For those of mine that did not have a loop, Drew over at Tightlines
nail knotted some 25 lb mono to the end of the line with 5" slack and
then tied a perfection loop to mate with looped leaders.

Have not fished the new mono loops yet but they look like a winner.

    Re: Line to leader connection

I am with the TPO crew on this one. I love the Rio welded loops, but for my non-Rio lines I use a plain old nail knot. It's not worth wasting your time with other methods, needles, scissors, lighters...all that is fluff. I just use the "Tie Fast" tool for nail knots, it's so easy I can even do it in the water while wading in an emergency. Most of the problems with "hinging" and so on are overblown; they just give people an opportunity to write about something. I am also fond of dressing the tips of my fly lines, and I also clean them from time to time. On a modern line, if the tip keeps sinking it is probably dirty and needs dressing. Since lines cost a bundle, the extra care is worth it.
