Thanks for that info Mike.
I spent most of my money on fishing equipment, beer and whiskey, the rest I just wasted.
How about drafting a group email signed by all the members we can gather here? Why don't we start an online petition to help the river.
We should get something like this going for the river. Perhaps HRO or Harold want to get it going since it directly effects their business:

Justin, I think that's a great idea!

The petition is a great concept, and I think HRO already has one (I signed it the day of the Davy Wotton clinic).
In all honesty, I don't think petitions do much good, they require little of the people that sign, and are easy to dismiss by the legislators for that reason. I think the best strategy is to lobby Bill Hyatt directly with personal letters that have a common theme. The theme is simple - we would like to have public hearings regarding the management policies that govern the Housatonic River. We could keep a tally here of who sends letters.
If someone else volunteers or perhaps already has such a draft letter, great. Otherwise, we should organize our thoughts and draft a TPO "form" letter together.
All of us love the Housatonic, but it is so easy to get lost in its maze of issues!
I agree w/Alain regarding the effectiveness of petitions. Great idea in concept, but easy to dismiss. I think a letter writing campaign would be far more influential. I'll even go so far to say that typing your own thoughts into a letter instead of basically just signing a form letter may carry more weight.
I don't know if they count emails either, but if you want to contact DEP officials, here is the list:

I could be wrong - I often am, but that's my 2 cents.

I'm not a fisherman. I'm a fishing machine!
