Getting tons of good fishing reports over the past week and a half- both numbers of trout being caught as well as quite a few in the upper teens, even a few 20"+ ones. The "glamour hatch" of late has been the Iso's, coming off in mid afternoon on cooler days, and later on warmer ones. Bert Oullette had a well over 50 fish afternoon on Iso dries last week, and picked up a measured 21" brown tonight. I'm getting many credible reports of fish in the 16-19" range, mostly browns. We stocked 500 good sized 'Bows below the TMA on 9/20- we ordered 13-15", they were more like 14-17" when delivered.

Nymphers have been scoring the bigger, holdover browns in the TMA, but dries are coughing up some big boys too- they love them Isonychia! Two separate friends both did well on bigger trout on nymphs today, with a good number over 16" and some 20" class trout both hooked & lost- LOTS of regular sized trout in the mix too. Weather is a bit warmer than I like today (Friday) with highs pushing into the upper 70's, but it's gonna cool down again starting on Sunday- high of 72, low in the mid 40's. Afternoon/evening water temps will probably scoot over the 70 mark on Saturday, but this should be very temporary, and the water temps should start out in the low to mid 60's in the AM- morning water temps have been running in the mid 50's to low 60's recently. If you are fishing this weekend, go no lighter than 5x on your tippet and play the trout hard, especially if venturing out in the latter half of the day. Early mornings can be a great time to nymph on warmer days due to the lower water temps.

I've been getting good reports over most of the TMA, except for the section going from about One Car up to the Flats- not many thermal refuges in that area, so give it a few months and some higher water for the trout to spread out. Flows have been low to very low, reminiscent of the old shut down flows from the pre Natural Flow era. We need rain! On the up side, the trout are concentrated and the wading is easier than normal- some big catches are being racked up by the better fishermen. Now is a good time to check the layout and bottom structure of your favorite pools. The low flows are also creating some great dry fly opportunities- it makes it practical for the fish to rise from the bottom to feed on the surface. That isn't always the case.
