Kyle, if you look at the site referenced earlier is shows that the line attaches to the tip of the rod.

CM, thanks for the reply, I don't go to streams as small as Joe was at in the videos with a fly rod, my casting skills are a long ways away from going those places. I can imagine that many of the places I go I could get away with one of the those rods. I can also see how at times landing the fish may be more tricky than casting to the fish.
