All the streams in NJ are open as are the PA streams.
In NY the East Branch of the Croton and the Lower West Branch of the Delaware are open. I would really have to think hard to find other good streams that are open.
All I know are the no kill sections of the beaverkill and the ramapo.
The wife and I booked a room at the super 8 and can't wait for our fist stealhead trip. Jan 18th can't come soon enough.

RipnLips are you in the area of the ramapo?
Yeah, the Ramapo runs through my backyard. I'm on the NY side in sloatsburg.
Thanks for the info Aaron. I had no idea about nj or pa, i've never fished in either state.

I live close by on the jersey side. When I dont feel like driving an hour to fish ive been going to the pequannock river its really close by. You just take 287 to 23 north and its about 5 mins. up. Never caught anything to big but all the browns are wild and its nice to fish close to home sometimes. Been doing ok with olive wooly buggers, black stonefly nymphs and egg flies. River is really high now though normal flow this time of year is around 10cfs right now its up around 200cfs.
I do the same with the ramapo, though i haven't caught a trout in there since spring. The smallmouth fishing is pretty good though.
I may have to check out the pequannock, if you ever want to meet up and go fishing down there i'd love a guided tour. ;D

No problem i think we would be better off to wait until the water is lower unless your good at fishing high water cause i try but have not been having good sucsess the past two weeks. As far as the ramapo i fished the jersey side in the spring and did well but that place gets hit hard by the bait guys and by june it was tough.
eh, with high water i always just fish in tight to the banks. Nymphs with indicators or big old streamers. It's always hit or miss for me though. I'm sure some of the guys here know some good techniques for high water.
Anytime you feel like fishing shoot me a message. If i'm not working i'm always ready to fish.
As for the ramapo, it's the same over here on the new york side. Tons of bait fisherman, and even fly fisherman pulling out stringers of 8 inch trout in the spring. What they don't get the heat gets in the summer. As far as i know, the ramapo has a VERY small hold over population.
