So after my girl read the April interview and all 7 guys cancelled our New Year's weekend Steelie trip my girl says she'll fish with me!!! As I know this could be a disaster or the beginning of a sweet thing,I was wondering if you guys had some suggetions on how to make shure she has fun and will actually consider doing it again....

At all costs, KEEP HER WARM!!!!!

That's the first thing I've found that pisses women off, that and them being hungry or having to use the bathroom. Just make sure you can accommodate all of the above....

Make sure you are patient with her. I'm sure she will require 50 rerigs tomorrow. Try and give her a simple method of fishing, like indicator nymphing.

Try and put catching fish above all else. That is, for example, above casting lessons or explanations of feeding behavior. If she hooks a few 10 lb steelies, the adrenaline might be enough to keep her coming back for more.

When she is ready for technical lessons, I suggest lessons with a professional, and a professional woman might be best. The pressure to perform well in front of you might turn her off of the sport. It's also hard for her to have fun if it's you, her and five of your buddies all making fart jokes and swilling beer and barking instructions at her. The clinic with April Vokey in June might be a perfect opportunity for her to learn from one of the best women in the game and have a great time with some other women fly fisher people. If you let me know you want a spot, I'll hold one for you at the discount rate until you can put the cash together. There is a great group in NYC called Juliana's Aglers that meets once a month and takes trips a few times a year. It's all women fly fishermen and it's a great opportunity to illustrate that fly fishing is a women's thing too.

All the best luck, oh yeah, stay up river. It's crowded but the bottom of the river is frozen and there aren't many fish coming in.

I did ask if she wanted to attend April's clinic. I think she's on the fence and with this opp. to take her to Pulaski I hope she get's hooked!! It's what made me a trout addict!!
Thanks for info on the women's club and I had the same thoughts about up river,the Wires or something and a spinning rod. Hey, It's about fishing and making it easy right. I think dare I say bobber"float" for less snags ect for a little more enjoyment on both our parts. I'll leave fly fishing with her till it's blue gill and stockey season. She loves the dry fly takes.

I agree KEEP HER WARM!!!!! This is more important than catching fish (to her). My girlfriend goes to Pulaski with me to go fishing and as soon as she gets cold game over and the next thing you know you will be sitting in the hotel room pissed off because you want to be out fish and she wants to stay in the warm hotel room with you. So keep her warm. hand warmers, foot warmers, when you think she is wearing enough layers have her put on another three layers, a couple extra pair of gloves in case a pair gets wet, and a thermos with a hot beverage. Also know where there is some public bathrooms near the river so you do not waste time driving back to the hotel. I also like to avoid the hotel because some times that warm hotel room and bed is just way to inviting and the next thing you know you are sleeping away daylight. If she has other hobbies have bring some stuff to do. Like my girlfriend likes photography and reading so we bring along her camera stuff and a book. So she has options when she gets board with fishing.

Dude I cant wait to hear the results!!! First keep her warm. Second, tons of patience... when you're walking through the woods go slow make sure she dosent fall on her ass or you're done. Pay more attention to her than yourself. Tough job man but I have faith in you.

Some great advice there! Also, if you are not in the LFZ don't rule out an egg sack or pink worm for her. Like Justin said, get her a fish or two and you're in!

Well for lack of better words it sucked,THE worst Steelis trip EVER. Never fish after q full moon and def. not after a blue moon. you might get the stink eye once in a blue and that's what happened. In my entire steelhead career I have not spent the whole day and not had a hook set!! What the hell??
Obviously she's not doing that again. Awesome way to get the year started..........Not!!!!
Yeah yeah I know it happens to everybody,It's just never happened to me. It's got me pretty bummed just talking about it...................
