What's the budget? I have a 10 foot 7 weight Scott G Series for sale.
Can anyone suggest a good setup - rod and reel for salmon/steelhead fishing. I'll be using primarily on the Salmon River in NY.
Thanks

I was hoping maybe 2-300for rod and reel.
I can sell the rod for 200. It retails at 600.
sounds good - how old, what condition, shipping?, will paypal work?
I use a Temple Fork Outfitters 8wt. A Cabelas SLA fly reel.
8 wt - but how long? spey?
I fish Michigan,so for salmon and steelhead, I choose a reel with a smooth, sealed drag with power. My choice is a reel made by Ross. They have models for various budgets.
My reel accomodates 8wt line.
My rod is an old Orvis 8wt, 9ft. TFO is what I am about to buy for my wife. The rod should have a fighting butt.
Casting distance is close so I dont need spey casting. If I fished somewhere else I might need a two handed rod but where I fish casting distance takes a back seat to stealth and accuracy.
Rod and reel should be DURABLE and Dependable in cold weather. I expect that my rod and reel may be bashed against a rock or a weighted fly may hit the rod.
I save my expensive rods for fair weather trout fishing.
SA has a new steelhead line that I am about to try out on salmon in a month or so.
Not to be repetitious but, fisherman are likely to slip on icy rocks and the fish can beat heck out of tackle.
8wt 10 foot. Not a spey.
