Hundreds of fish died when Bushkill Creek ran dry in Tatamy.State officials are still investigating what caused a section of Bushkill Creek to run dry earlier this year in Tatamy, killing hundreds of fish.
A preliminary finding indicated the Sept. 28 shutdown of electric pumps at the Hercules Cement Co. plant upstream led to the insufficient water levels.
If that finding holds up, Hercules could face fines and be forced to change its operation to prevent similar incidents in the future, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection spokesman. The pumps were turned off for maintenance.
