Check out the article on casting by Lefty in Fly Fishing Saltwater. Great article on using your body to help cast instead of constantly using your elbow and shoulder. I have been using this technique for over a year or so now and for the salt, it is great. The concept, as described in this particular article, is to utilize your body for casting. Take the leg of the side you cast with i.e I cast with my left so I take my left leg and position it back, and then swivel your body with the cast. Keeping your arm positioned as if it is on a shelf and sliding it back and fourth on the shelf without raising or lowering your arm. The great thing that I have found with this technique is that it will help you get more distance and generate more power and you save your elbow and shoulder from constant strain. There is a another article on this that I read quite some time ago and it was very similiar. When you look at a lot of saltwater casters, they don't load and unload the rod at traditional 11 and 1 or 10 and 2. 11 and 1 being the newest school of thought out of the 2( which is the best for throwing tight loops and generating better line speed) You will see a lot of people bring the rod back further and get there body into the cast. Believe me, this helps big time and I now do it without thinking. You could certaintly implement it when trout fishing as well. Check out the article, quick and easy method to remember and if you fish the salt like I do, this HELPS BIG TIME! www.firsthatchflyfishing.com
