    Bushkill Creek 7-19

I went to Bushkill Creek in Easton PA this morning to test out some flies that I have been messing around with. The water was the lowest and clearest that I've seen it this year. I was on the water by 6:00AM and fished for around 3 hours. I brought 5 wild browns and one rainbow to the net while losing 4 in the fight. The fly that got them all was a variation of the minute caddis larva that Aaron featured on here before he left for Big Sky country. I had them on a shortline rig as both the anchor and the dropper. I've had great success with this fly in my local creek as well. Here's aic of the fly:

While fishing I was enveloped by a swarming cloud of small mayflies that I am assuming were tricos as their size was very small, maybe 22-24. They were everywhere, numbers had to be in the thousands. While walking home I stopped at a large pool and watched as numerous trout were sipping the spent flies off the surface. I really had nothing to match what they were sipping but I did try a small caddis fly. It didn't work,,lol.

That's a good few hours of fishing there this time of year. It can get really tough.

The next time those fish are feeding on those tricos and you don't have any, put an ant or beetle on. You will be amazed at how fast those fish will whack it, especially on small streams like the Bushkill.

I was surprised that I ran into as many fish as I did. I had expected to catch a few leftover stockies but it was nice to get those wils browns. Their size wasn't anything to brag about (8-11 inches) but I was tickled just to catch fish on flies that I tied.
Aaron, thanks for the tip about the ants. I have a few in my box and will give them a try next time.

Follow the same recipe as the video posted on here for the Minute Caddis Larva. After you tie in the wire tie in a strip of latex about a 1/4 inch wide. I used a regular Trojan latex condom cut to size. Dub the body as in the video, then wrap the body with one overlapping layer of the latex, wrap it tight enough to compress the dubbing. After doing this, rib the body tightly to make the segmentation. Continue as in the video. After finishing I tie a hot spot behind the bead in either florescent orange or pink. Optionally I weight the fly with .015 non-lead wire. I put the recipe up here: http://www.flyfishingcommunity.com/m...ator_b=general
